GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 626668
Grid view displays compilations as lots of individual albums
Last modified: 2010-08-11 21:04:33 UTC
Created attachment 167654 [details] Screenshot of the grid view in Banshee with replicated album artwork. The lower pane of the grid view in Banshee displays artwork of albums that you can browse through. However, when "all artists" is selected in the top pane, I noticed that artists in compilation albums are listed individually in the bottom pane with one thumbnail for each artist that is featured - rather than having all the artists featured in that album being grouped together behind one thumbnail. Ideally, the lower pane should only display one thumbnail per album, even for compilations - otherwise it can take ages to scan through and find the album you are looking for. Having lots of thumbnails of the same album (as in the screenshot attached) is also quite unattractive and isn't very intuitive.
Thanks for the report! These thumbnails should all be merged into one album if you set each track as part of a compilation through Edit Information. If you have any questions on how to do this, see the bottom of this page: http://banshee.fm/support/guide/track-list/ I'm marking this report as a duplicate of Bug 624311, as this process doesn't seem to be as intuitive as it could be (there have been several bug reports and mailing list posts that cover this topic). If you can think of ways to make this process more discoverable, feel free to add a comment over at 624311. If I've misinterpreted your bug report, of if this happens even if the compilation box is checked, feel free to reopen this. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 624311 ***
Hi Michael Thanks for your prompt response - sorry for not spotting Bug 624311, I did do a couple of searches before reporting this but I obviously didn't use the right keywords! This is essentially my problem - and I'm glad there is a workaround (choosing the album artist in the edit window). I will append my comments to the existing bug report. Jonathan

No worries -- Bugzilla searches can be tricky things. I usually just search through my Gmail instead. :)
