GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 626523
Translation comment needed
Last modified: 2012-11-24 20:28:23 UTC
could you add comment in which context it is used? #: ../interfaces/time.ui.h:11 msgid "Unconfigured" msgstr "Nenastavený"
and also this string #: ../interfaces/users.ui.h:69 msgid "_Custom" msgstr "_Vlastné"
where is used this string? #: ../src/common/gst-tool.c:621 msgid "The system configuration has potentially changed." msgstr "Nastavenia systému sa prípadne zmenili."
and this #: ../src/services/service.c:65 msgid "Package index monitor" msgstr "Monitor indexu balíkov"
#: ../src/users/user-profiles.conf.in.h:4 msgid "Desktop user" msgstr "Používateľ pracovnej stanice" Desktop user is user of computer or desktop enviroment?
need context #: ../src/users/user-settings.c:335 msgid "Custom" msgstr "Vlastné"
I think, it should be "home folder" msgid "Incomplete path in home directory"
Thanks for the reports, but you could have helped me by looking for these strings and telling me what they correspond to, as I needed to check the code as much as you to do that. As a translator (for French), I know how hard it can be to guess what a string really means, so I'm happy to make improve this. Though, I think a few things in your list don't need a comment, since the context is enough to guess - else, we would need to add comments everwhere. What I can say for now: #: ../interfaces/time.ui.h:11 msgid "Unconfigured" -> This is obvious from the context: the previous string is about time zones, so this string means "No time zone configured". So I don't think it needs a comment. #: ../src/common/gst-tool.c:621 "The system configuration has potentially changed." -> This is shown in a dialog when configuration files have been edited manually while a tool is running. Bu I don't think you need to know that to translate it correctly. #: ../src/services/service.c:65 msgid "Package index monitor" -> To be honest, I didn't write that string, and I don't really know what it means. Like the previous strings in the PO file, it describes system services, I'd say that's a program monitoring changes in the distribution packages, e.g. for searching purposes. #: ../src/users/user-profiles.conf.in.h:4 "Desktop user" -> The description is easy to find, it's explained by the previous string in the PO file: "Can perform common tasks. Can't install software or change settings affecting all users." It's the contrary of Administrator, which is described by the string before. #: ../interfaces/users.ui.h:69 msgid "_Custom" #: ../src/users/user-settings.c:335 msgid "Custom" -> A special user account type which means that Desktop User or Administrator don't describe this user correctly. I'll add a comment for this one, and actually the two strings should be the same, I'll fix that. msgid "Incomplete path in home directory" -> This is intentional, because this message is only used for advanced users tweaking the place they want to store $HOME. So we don't talk of folders, but of directory, which is the technical term that advanced users understand, and which is more accurate in this case. Thanks for suggesting, though.
According to its developer(s), gnome-system-tools is not under active development anymore. Functionality has been mostly integrated into GNOME Control Center / "[System] Settings". It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping - Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
