Description Carl van Tonder 2010-08-09 09:51:24 UTC
On trying to connect to an IP address that is not a valid IPv4 address, i.e. 811.1.1.1 (811 is clearly more than 255), Vinagre gives the error message:
"Connection to host 811.142.95.178 was closed."

I would expect either an error box saying "this IP address is not valid" or, better yet, Vinagre should not allow the "Connect" button to be clicked unless the IP address/hostname is valid.
Comment 1 Carl van Tonder 2010-08-09 09:52:51 UTC
Just to confirm, the IP address in the error message is the same as the one entered, apologies for the copy-pasting error.
Comment 2 David King 2011-04-16 21:23:35 UTC
Considering that the ‘Host’ field could contain an IPv4 address, an IPv6 address or a hostname, it seems unfeasible to control the sensitivity of the ‘Connect’ button by attempting to validate the contents of the field. However, it should be possible to give a more informative error message. Setting milestone to 3.4, but I might get a chance to fix this for 3.2.
Comment 3 André Klapper 2021-05-26 09:25:55 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Vinagre, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vinagre/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
