Description Stian Jordet 2010-08-07 16:58:56 UTC
Since I'm not happy with f-spot's directory-structure at import, I have always been using a home made perl script for putting images into a directory structure.

I therefore always import from the root folder (say ~/Photos), and only the new images have been imported. But after I decided to start tracking git (after the 0.7 release) this haven't been working for me - now it always reads all of my 22 000 images at every import (I have never let it complete, but I guess since I have duplicate detection on, it will not import any of the old, but it takes like three hours, which is a lot since I usually import pictures almost daily...

I'm a bit surprised noone else have seen this, but I have tried to search the bugzilla without finding anything similar.

Regards,
Stian

Good catch, not exactly my use case. I have added a URI-based quick rejection test, which should solve the problem for you. Could you retest git master and re-open this bug if this is still an issue?
Comment 2 Stian Jordet 2010-08-07 23:39:09 UTC
Thank you for extremely fast answer! Unfortunately I'm afraid that this didn't really help at all..?

Do you need any more info? I don't seem to have privileges to reopen the bug...
Comment 3 Ruben Vermeersch 2010-08-08 13:56:53 UTC
With latest git? Note that it will still scan the entire directory (that's needed to make sure we find the new files), but it should go through them much faster.

Which options are you using to import?
Comment 4 Stian Jordet 2010-08-08 14:55:23 UTC
Well, maybe it's faster then before, but it still does this "import image"-thing, and it seems to go through 2000 pictures a minute on my computer, which means it will still take 11-12 minutes to complete.

With f-spot before 0.7, when I selected "Open" on the folder, it took maybe 30-40 seconds before I could press the import-button - not 12 minutes like now.

I have "Detect duplicates" and "Include subfolder" options selected.

Thanks again :)

Hopefully you don't feel this bug is resolved (which judging by the release notes might be the case...), because an import time of 11-12 minutes (and always growing) for just a couple of pictures makes f-spot unusable for my use. Which is a pity, since I've used it for over four years already.

Anyway, I had this problem earlier also; bug #473812

This was fixed with this commit, I think: http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/f-spot/trunk/src/PhotoStore.cs?r1=3326&r2=3332&pathrev=3332

But I guess after the rewrite this works differently...

Reopening as I think the requested information has been provided.
Comment 7 André Klapper 2018-07-01 08:53:11 UTC
f-spot is not under active development anymore, has not seen code changes for five years, and saw its last tarball release in the year 2010.
Its codebase has been archived: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/f-spot/commits/master

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping to reflect reality. Please feel free to reopen this ticket (or rather transfer the project to GNOME Gitlab, as GNOME Bugzilla is deprecated) if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.
