Description G. S. Tatch 2010-08-04 18:25:16 UTC
Hi, It's a suggestion, not a bug...

1) Is there a way to get epiphany to minimalize from and resize to the desktop from the icon in the status / notification area?

A little bug...

2) I'm using evolution with my net, using, no problem, except for the exception of the wizard while starting up, my screen is 1024 * 600 (MSI Wind U100)... It's just a little too small, probably designed for 1024 * 768, is there a way to make it "auto-scale"?

Maybe I'm bugging, but it might be handy...

3) There's no CTRL-Z option for when making typo's in the BugBuddy...

Greetz,

Mistery Tatch

As it's no notification: no. :) But you could use Alltray for this.

That's bug 267787.

Andre,

Docking is different, and works different, then the icon that it minimizes to.. sorry, I should have been more clear, non-english speaker,

I meant minimize to tray!

while typing: "from and resize to the desktop from the icon in the status / notification area?"

Sorry about the bug in the bugrepport!

;)

As I said, it wasn't a bug, it was an idea...

Minimize to tray is WONTFIX, as there is no tray in GNOME.
Comment 6 G. S. Tatch 2010-08-05 06:44:50 UTC
Excuse me, but what does XChat do when minimized to tray?

Comment 7 André Klapper 2010-08-05 06:53:41 UTC
XChat is not officially part of GNOME and abuses GNOME's notification area.
Comment 8 G. S. Tatch 2010-08-05 07:10:10 UTC
And Gnome-Mplayer? Same abuse?

Well, when it's abuse, speaking about sexual intercourse, when prople choose to do so volountairy and like the effect, it's all good, right? Relating back to gnome, I like the notification area "abuse" and I still think it's a good idea that Evolution has a minimize to tray option, since the incomming mail is blinking already... and most of the time it's simply annoying to have the mail client, as all things run mostly most of the time minimized to the panel because it get's overcrowded easily...

Yes.

So use AllTray.

Tried alltray, way different then the expected, and more importantly "the wanted" situation, and ey, maybe because something isn't supposed to, that doesn't mean that when it works it could come in quit handy, and since the bug applet said about suggestions, I suggested...

I sincerely urge you to reconsider because it's one of the mayor annoyances in an otherwise fine mail program...

Greetings

Comment 11 G. S. Tatch 2010-08-05 08:02:03 UTC
The alltray is now working as wanted, but I still think it is a good idea to include it... Maybe a little notification area next to the original one so that that can be used as a tray area?
Comment 12 G. S. Tatch 2010-08-05 08:23:22 UTC
One thing though,

A trayicon could be used for shortcuts..

Check mail...
Find / new contact / tasks / memos...
Find / new mail
Show calender

All usefull things that people use evolution most for in a single little menu...

Even sending and other little stuff could be there..

The Notification area shows that there's new mail though.. When that same graphic could include a little menu system of something, that would be better, and now, even with trayicon, there are 2 icon's showing up... That could be 1 I think, and it would still be usefull..

But maybe, when considered "abuse", I think that the'res a demand, at least from my side... But I don't think I'm the only one in this... could poll....

And point 2: See this from a part-time productivity user's point of view, Not everybody using gnome is a gentoo user, not all evolution users know that much about gnome either... They wouldn't be knowing about alltray..

I asume you program, are a part of the gnome development team... You know more then the average user... But they don't... They just think it sucks to have no minimize option and are annoyed about closing the application when they're not paying attention to what they are doing, a lot are... me sometimes too... Bit too wasted, half drunk from sleep, and tada... one wrong click, and whoop, there it is, and I don't blame you, nor gnome for this... I should be sleeping when i'm tired, but we both know that humans sometimes do stupid things for whatever reason...

While being interested, even though I probably couldn't program the thing myself, I'm still sick, I could gimp a little, maybe build the proposal in HTML... It started as just a makeup language after all....

Handy it would be, I think, that's why i'm persisting that you'd consider... For a productivity user, it would be nice, and trust me, they don't care weither it's abuse of the notification area... the care about productivity!

Greetings

G. S. Tatch
