GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 626036
Strings in Equalizer not translatable
Last modified: 2010-08-10 20:45:19 UTC
In src/Core/Banshee.ThickClient/Banshee.Equalizer.Gui/EqualizerView.cs the units (dB, Hz, kHz) and the word "Preamp" are not marked for translation. Looking at for example the Russian Wikipedia it seems that there are languages which translate the units.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
I wonder if we need to mark these for plural translation. CC'ing the i18n team.
So what is the exact question? Where are plurals involved here?
We have strings like this: Catalog.GetString ("+{0} dB"), db); Catalog.GetString ("{0} Hz"), frequencies[i] Where we're passing in numbers -- the decibels and frequency in Hz. I have no clue if there are languages that would need pluralization support in these cases.
To me, db and Hz are the same category as €, $, m (meter), ms (millisecond) or kg (kilogram), which don't have a plural.
I would in general refer to the SI-units and signs, which are dB and Hz. Anyway FYI, the russian wikipedia page contains a table with the SI and another version: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%93%D0%B5%D1%80%D1%86_%28%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0_%D0%B8%D0%B7%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F%29 (wonder if that links works in the end...) Removing i18n from CC to void spamming the list.
As far as Polish goes, they usually aren't „pluralized”
