Description Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-08-02 22:05:44 UTC
The current set of colors is not very sexy, even when compared to openoffice's. It would be great to use the tango colors by default for charts, as it would make them prettier "from the start" and also make gnumeric integrate better with the rest of the desktop color schemes.

I think we should stick with the "Gnumeric" colours by default. Whether Tango colours are "sexy" or not is surely in the eye of the beholder. I suggest "wontfix".

If one decided to change the colour scheme one would also need to make sure that that does not change the colours of graphs already saved in Gnumeric files.

Dupe of bug 531070?
Comment 3 Jean-François Fortin Tam 2010-08-03 01:17:49 UTC
Just to make it clear, I'm not suggesting to replace the color grid in the color picker; I'm simply suggesting that the default chart elements have some "less bland" colors by default if the user doesn't touch them.

Whatsmore, I discovered that you cannot easily, as a user, change the colors individually inside the areas of pie chart, for example. To me, that is an additional argument for "making the colors more attractive by default".

Maybe a new "tango" theme could be used and the current theme be renamed "classic"?

Your screenshots are persuasive. I would be very unhappy to see something quite as garish as the OOo pie chart as the default. The data ought to be emphasized not the colours. I find that OOo colours make it much more difficult to compare the area then Gnumeric's subdued colours.

Perhaps we really just need a way to switch colour themes easily, as suggested in bug 531070.
Comment 7 Andreas J. Guelzow 2010-08-03 02:31:29 UTC
Just to emphasize it a bit more. To me the bright yellow (?) are in the OOo plot looks (much) larger than the green area, because of its brightness, but from th numbeers it is clear that it is smaller.

This will be fixed when themes from files will work.
