What were you doing when the application crashed?
I was simply on the web using firefox and without matter , the X  application in crash and I lost graphic interface of ubuntu, desktop and he was only in line command without graphic interface.
All problems started when I upgrade from 9.10 to LTS 10.04.
bad upgrade :(
