Totem doesn't include a mute item in the menu or a mute hotkey. Mute in the menu is required to use the built in gnome hotkey editing. 


For a few reasons

* Totem's volume control scrollbar is independent of the system's volume control
* Media keys control system wide volume
* Totem already has volume up/down in the menu, these control totem's own volume
