Can't expung trash

Distribution: Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)
Gnome Release: 2.30.2 2010-06-25 (Ubuntu)
BugBuddy Version: 2.28.0
Comment 1 Russ Mannex 2010-07-17 17:56:57 UTC
Attempts to manually expunge trash (since it isn't automatically working) result in dialog box:

   Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/Sent (mbox)':
   Error storing '~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox (mbox)':
Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

I have LOTS of messages in my trash folder, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get rid of them. Help!
