Description francis.belanger 2010-07-16 12:48:56 UTC
When I start Banshee the Playbask -> Shuffle Menu is Grey and I can't shuffle any songs or Albums. Sometimes after a couple of songs played the option is back, but not always.
Comment 1 Gabriel Burt 2010-07-16 19:38:43 UTC
When playback is happening from the Play Queue, shuffle is disabled. Are you sure this isn't what's happening? What source is bold when this happens?

I am having this issue right now!

Was running Banshee 1.6.1 on Ubuntu 10.04, though I've upgraded to 1.7.6 today - as well as uninstalled/reinstalled repeatedly. I am not in the Play Queue.

When I open the program and hit play, it goes to the same song every time (and if I delete that song, it just starts going to another song every time) and shuffle/repeat options are completely disabled and greyed out. Ctrl+J doesn't work either, to take me to the current song.

If I select a random song, all the sudden I have the option to shuffle...but as soon as I click Next, it's automatically back to the same song and all shuffle/repeat options are disabled again. I cannot figure this out.

Alison,

It sounds like you have items in your Play Queue source -- listed below Now Playing and above Music in the list of sources on the left-hand side of Banshee. If it contains items that were manually added, it takes over playback. And it doesn't support Shuffle/Repeat modes, so those get disabled. I believe this is your confusion. Please re-open the bug if that's not the case and there is a real bug at play here.

Gabriel,

No I am definitely not in the Play Queue. I'm in Music and never ever go into Play Queue. Trust me on this!

When I'm in a playlist (like Favorites) and start playing a song, I can edit Shuffle/Repeat, but once the song is over it automatically goes BACK to Music and back to the next song (and shuffle/repeat is disabled). Seems to be deadset on playing through my entire library in order. Even if I'm in Music and have a filter applied...once the song I chose is over, it still goes back to playing what it wants.

Do I need to do anything in particular to re-open the bug? New to this.

Thanks,
Alison

OH I see what you're saying. Sorry. I will have to check later, when I'm at that computer, and get back to you... I've never manually added anything to it though, nor do I ever select it...
Comment 7 Gabriel Burt 2010-09-22 18:06:54 UTC
Alison,

OK - click on Play Queue and see if there are any items in it. Why don't you attach a screenshot here while you're at it?
Comment 8 alison 2010-09-23 05:00:54 UTC
You win the prize, Gabriel. There were songs in the Play Queue (that I swear I didn't add though...) so even when I was playing the songs from Music, it was taking over. I deleted all of them and now I can change shuffle/repeat when in the Music menu. Everything seems to be back to normal? I still can't figure WHY it happened suddenly, but okay. User error IS the usual problem...

You probably accidentally pressed 'q' which is a shortcut to add selected songs to the play queue.

Changing the status to NOTABUG.

This had me tearing my hair out for 3 days. Without going on a long rant, this behaviour is very unintuitive and should be considered a usability bug. There should be a separate shuffle flag for each playlist (the play queue, favourites, music, etc).
