GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 624195
Scrollback length should be MUCH longer
Last modified: 2012-12-16 13:46:59 UTC
Having just lost some important scrollback, I thought I'd file a bug suggesting that we make the default scrollback length much longer. I don't know the default (because I just changed it), but relative to the RAM I have on my machine, it's completely negligible. I see two options: 1. Set the scrollback size relative to the available ram on a machine, with an upper cap. So, if I have 128MB RAM, my scrollback is maybe 500 lines. If I have 1GB ram, it's maybe 10,000 lines. If I have 16GB ram, it's still 10,000. 2. Just bump the number up to around 10,000, and consider that a fix. I imagine this could also be a way that Ubuntu packages it..if so, I'll refile there.
I guess we could increase the default. Behdad?
Yes, let's increase it to 10,000.
We should change the default in vte too, not g-t only.
This bug is still present in gnome-terminal 3.2.1 (scrollback defaults to 512 lines).
Fixed on master, increased the default value to 8192 .
