If you use the create screenshot gallery option in totem you get a lot of duplicates screenshots in the result gallery, this is reproducible with totem 2.30.2 ; Tested it with a long movie (more than 1:30 hrs) and a short clip of 20 minutes

example:

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/51734691/Galerie-3rd%20Rock%20from%20the%20Sun%20-%204-14%20-%20Paranoid%20Dick.avi-1.jpg

Thanks,

The videos you're using have keyframes which are too far apart; when the thumbnailer tries to seek to a position between two keyframes, GStreamer instead seeks it to the nearest keyframe it can find. If you've got it set to do a high number of screenshots, this will result in duplicate screenshots. The solution is to reduce the number of screenshots taken.

More accurate seeking is bug #619788.
