GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 623942
Backups filter hides too many files
Last modified: 2010-07-23 11:20:11 UTC
I had the 'Backups' filter turned on, while doing a 3-way directory comparison. It also hid files named 'sv~dune.log' in all 3 directories. I expected that it would only hide files that ended in a tilde, not those that just contained one. ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Apr 27 08:13:05 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 Package: meld 1.3.0-2 PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-20.58-generic SourcePackage: meld Uname: Linux 2.6.31-20-generic i686
I can't reproduce this here. The default "Backups" filter filters out "~*" and "*~". In other words, files that start or end with a tilde are filtered out. Your file should show up (and does for me). Can you check to see what your Backups filter contains?
I think my Backups filter was set to the following when I filed the bug: #*# .#* ~* *~ *.{orig, bak, swp} I'm now trying it with: #*# .#* *~ *.{orig, bak, swp} and I still see the problem. I've also noticed that the same behaviour happens for a 2-way directory comparison (which seems logical). I've only tried the current version from the Ubuntu repositories. Is there a different version I could try to help you narrow down the issue?
I've now tried to reproduce this in meld-1.3.2, downloaded from http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/meld/1.3/. It works as intended, regardless of the setting of the Backups filter. I'm now trying meld-1.3.0. If this works OK, I'll close this bug, since it will be a problem in any patches Ubuntu/Debian have added.
OK. I've now confirmed that this bug was present in 1.3.0, but has already been fixed in 1.3.2. I'm closing this bug, and I'll request that Ubuntu use a newer version.
