krb5-auth-dialog does not open

I can confirm this. But I think this problem is a Ubuntu problem dependency with libhx509-4-heimdal. Ubuntu launchpad report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/krb5-auth-dialog/+bug/597427
Indeed it is. krb5-auth-dialog only uses hx509 for pkinit. So as a workaround you can build against MIT Kerberos. It's a bug in Ubuntu's Heimdal package so closing the report.
The bug has been fixed with an update in Ubuntu.
