GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 621962
Dynamically change smtp
Last modified: 2010-11-01 09:46:44 UTC
Hi, a common scenario is to use the same computer (laptop) from multiple internet connection: for example I use my laptop at work, at home, or connected to the internet with my cell phone via bluetooth, I send mails from every of this three connection however the smtp that I use at work doesn't work when I'm at home so if I want to send a mail from my work account when I'm at home or connected by cell phone I have to modify the sending option in my account settings and when I come back to work I have to change it again. Many mailer let you configure multiple smtp and when you send an email you can choose which one to use (if the default isn't the right one) I think evolution should have this feature, this is really a blocker for most common use cases, thanks Nicola

Thanks for a bug report. You can do the same in evolution too, though here it is not called "identity". Just configure a new account, which will have "None" as a Receiving Server Type, and a SMTP with filled values for your work SMTP, then you'll be able to send through the second SMTP when you'll choose the other "From:" in the message composer. There is some bug filled to support some kind of identities setup instead of this, so maybe this can be marked as a duplicate of this.
ok, I'm doing this now, but it seems an hack
No no, it's evo way of doing this :)
Milan, I'm now connected via my cell phone and I can use only one smtp to send my email, I have 6 email accounts, using the evo way I have to define 6 additionals fake accounts ... this seems a bug to me, regards Nicola
