GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 621565
Can no longer save inline images from e-mail messages
Last modified: 2011-09-30 05:49:55 UTC
In past versions (I'm pretty sure it was in 2.26, possibly even in 2.28) if an email had inlined images (i.e. local to the MIME message) then one can right click the image and choose to "Save Image As". With current Evolution 2.30, this option is not available - when right clicking an image, I get either the standard link RMB menu (open link in a browser) if the image is inside an <a> tag, or the standard email RMB menu (reply to sender, reply to all, etc.)
I looked as far back as Evolution 2.12 and didn't see this, so while this may have existed in an ancient version it is at this point an enhancement request. Marking as such.
Created attachment 169231 [details] Screenshot showing the correct functionality Here is a screenshot that shows how this works in Evolution 2.28.3 (on Ubuntu 10.04). As you can see, right clicking embedded images offers a menu with image-specific options, including "Save As...".
Created attachment 169232 [details] Screenshot showing the incorrect behavior in current Evolution And here is the screenshot showing the same email on the same account, but this time on Evolution 2.30.2 in Ubuntu 10.10 - this time we don't get any image oriented menu options, instead right clicking an image shows up the standard RMB menu for the email viewer. Clearly there was significant functionality loss here, in a very recent version.
Not only that you cannot save them. It they are very large, you even don't have any reasonable way to view them. There is no smaller/larger widget. This is a major regression that may force me to use a different mail client. Actually there is only one work-around, that is not reliable to average users: cd ~/.local/share/evolution/mail/imap/me@example.org/folders/INBOX base64 -d <20139.2.2 >20139.2.2.jpg eog 20139.2.2.jpg
