GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 621164
All mozilla browser products cause GS crash
Last modified: 2010-09-11 12:25:14 UTC
As of a week ago both of my Firefox browsers (3.6 & 3.7 testing) & Seamonkey will cause a Gnome Shell crash as soon as they are opened/used. More interestingly, Google Chrome will not cause a crash. System is Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat X86-64 testing. I build from source. Terminal output is as follows: dean@linux:~/gnome-shell/install/bin$ ./gnome-shell --replace /home/dean/.themes/Human-Blue-Lucid/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:141: Invalid color constant '##C6C7CA' /home/dean/.themes/Human-Blue-Lucid/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:141: Invalid color constant '##C6C7CA' Window manager warning: Workarounds for broken applications disabled. Some applications may not behave properly. More information: I've cleaned up every ELF Class 32 error....Mozilla browers still crash GS with: dean@linux:~/gnome-shell/install/bin$ ./gnome-shell --replace Window manager warning: Workarounds for broken applications disabled. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Without a stack trace from the crash it's very hard to determine what caused it. Can you get us a stack trace? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell/Debugging for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance! GNOME Shell uses Mozilla's Javascript engine, so another interesting piece of information would be the exact version in use (especially as you apparently have two concurrent versions installed)
I'm not sure--I can start a GS session & it will work normally until I try to start any mozilla product (only guessing about Thunderbird--am using 3 different browsers)--that causes a right now crash with the only info as in the terminal output above. Are you wanting me to call GS with: $ env G_SLICE=always-malloc ./src/gnome-shell --replace -g --debug-command="libtool --mode=execute valgrind" ?
Went to page you indicated--first address is a 404 not found: http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/%20gdb So it starting to look like the info on gdb needs to be updated.....
(In reply to comment #4) > Are you wanting me to call GS with: $ env > G_SLICE=always-malloc ./src/gnome-shell --replace -g --debug-command="libtool > --mode=execute valgrind" ? No, for a simple backtrace the commands outlined under "Acquiring a backtrace" are enough. (In reply to comment #5) > Went to page you indicated--first address is a 404 not found: > http://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/%20gdb So it starting to look like the info > on gdb needs to be updated..... Fixed, thanks for pointing that out. Note that if you didn't know already what gdb is, you should be extra careful here - the big fat warnings on that page about freezing your desktop are there for a reason, so you should be confident that you know your way out before you start debugging.
Second part of your question first: Firefox 3.6.6~hg20100609r34293 Firefox 3.7~a5~hg20100610r43440 Seamonkey 2.0.6pre Gecko/20100607 And as I noted, this problem has only came in within the last week or so...prior to that, all three worked well.
"Problem" is "fix" right now---Ubuntu developers had enabled RGBA in GTK+...nice semi-transparent look, but it also looks like the source of this crash. As soon as they backed out that "test", all the Mozilla products work correctly in GS.
seems like the issue was fixed, I'll change the status of this ticket to RESOLVED FIXED, but please if I'm wrong feel free to correct it.
