GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 621127
Could not connect to Jabber/XMPP server running on the Intranet
Last modified: 2012-02-10 09:19:24 UTC
Empathy cannot connect to a Jabber/XMPP server running on a Linux box on our intranet. Other clients work fine -> Pidgin (Linux), PSI(Windows), Pandion(Windows). Our server does not uses TLS encryption or SSL at all. Port 5222. Unfortunatelly, I could not retrieve the server's version or what it is running there.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug.

I have same issue connecting to jabber.org server via Empathy (see previous attached screenshot of error). Empathy 2.30.2-1~ppa10.04+1 Telepathy-gnome 23 Ubuntu 10.4 (Lucid) A connection to the jabber.org server was successful with exact same settings in Pidgin. Bug originally reported on Launchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/587511 and was requested to be posted upstream.
Sounds like a telepathy-gabble log issue. Please open a bug on bugs.freedesktop.org and attach gabble logs.
sudo killall telepathy-gabble resolves similar problem for me.
