GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 620501
can't upgrade empathy
Last modified: 2010-06-04 18:06:44 UTC
I have a 64-bit dual Intel processor Dell Latitude E6500. I install Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 from scratch. After upgrading the packages, I can no longer run the gui interface. When I boot, I don't get the greeter. I can use the console to log in and a few things run. The empathy package is broken. When I try to fix the installation, I get the following errors. These errors are keeping me from doing more important things, like having a working computer for my work. % apt-get -f install Reading package lists... Please file a bug against Ubuntu about their update system?
I did. They said to file it here.
(BTW, that filing (comment 1) is at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/577122)
This finger pointing isn't getting my system working. It's been a month since I attempted to upgrade to 10.04, and I still haven't received any useful help or any indication that anyone is looking into this problem. I've been a Unix user since the early 80's, but I've only recently switched to Ubuntu (Koala, a few months ago). This upgrade is the most painful one I've ever been through. If there is somewhere else I should look for help, please let me know.
(In reply to comment #2) > I did. They said to file it here. I don't see any such comment in the downstream bug. And as I said here: Does not look like an Empathy bug at all. This is about the update system. Closing.
The comment, from the link I gave in Comment 3 is: Jeremy Foshee wrote on 2010-05-25: #5 I'm moving this to the empathy package as it doesn't appear to be kernel related. ~JFo I'm under the impression that THIS bus has been filed against the empathy package. (If I'm wrong, please help me find where the correct place is.) Please help me find the correct place to file a bug against the "update system". Thanks, Steve
Oops...typo... "bus" should be "bug".
Yeah, empathy. In Ubuntu. Not in upstream please.
