GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 620293
new tabs ignore command line options such as --geometry, --zoom
Last modified: 2012-12-16 13:43:20 UTC
this report has been filed here: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/gnome-terminal/+bug/572648 "Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch a new terminal using the command `gnome-terminal --geometry=100x24 --zoom=1.3` 2. Open a new tab in that terminal (File > New Tab) Works fine on 2.28 though" Thanks,
I can't test right now, but I don't think it's a bug if zoom or geometry from some command line isn't applied to new tabs created from *within* the app.
Oh and from the downstream bug I see that ubuntu ships a buggy g-t version (2.95.6) with its 10.4 release, wtf! Please test this with the stable 2.30.1 release.
If inconsistent and awkward behavior is not considered a bug, then this is absolutely not one. It entirely depends on your definition. If a user opens a terminal using --zoom and --geometry and hits Ctrl-T for a new tab, the zoom suddenly goes away and window resizes. Interestingly this was not the case until 2.28. I do realize that Ubuntu 10.04 ships with gnome-terminal 2.29.x, an unstable version. I'll post an update as soon as gnome-terminal 2.30.x is available as a package on Ubuntu. However, this issue takes no more than a minute to test. If this is a bug in 2.30.x, it should be recognized as one. If it's not, it should be closed as fixed.
I have just tested it on Ubuntu Maverick and it is still happening. It's version 2.32. elopio@tangamandapio:~$ aptitude show gnome-terminal Package: gnome-terminal State: installed Automatically installed: no Version: 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
Not a bug. --geometry only applies to new windows, and zoom isn't carried over to new tabs (this is a design decision, which may be revisited in the coming re-design).
