Upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic last autumn, where web browser 2.26.1 was able to resolve file:// URLs. Now it is web browser 2.28.0 and file:// is not working any more.

Was there a change in URL handling (extension, policy) without documentation I am able to find? Or is it simply a bug in the browser (which I don't believe since there are no complaints).

Help welcome,
Klaus

Reproduce with:

file:/// => Unable to load page: Problem occurred while loading the URL file:///

file:// => suggests file:///home/kr
which is my home directory => Unable to load page: Problem occurred while loading the URL file:///home/kr

This has been fixed already, with the new request API in soup.
