The attached file is detected as text/plain when it's actually a subtitle file.

$ gst-typefind beowulf.sub

Do you know which subtitle format this is? It looks a bit like SubViewer 1.0 but those start with [INFORMATION] and have real linebreaks instead of the pipes. Version 2.0 uses [br] for linebreaks.

According to http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-81059.html this is indeed SubViewer 1.0. Maybe it doesn't have to start with [INFORMATION], but just [FOO], and according to that page SubViewer 1.0 uses | as line breaks too.
