Description Pieter vanderPloeg 2010-05-21 16:56:17 UTC
When started Rhythmbox on Ubuntu Lucid with daap plugin installed, shows the mt-daapd server on my LAN. The mt-daapd server is running on Ubuntu 8.04 server. Whern choosing a song to play, the daap-service crashes/stops and is no longer shown in Rhythmbox. With Banshee on the same Lucid machine, the daap server is usable and does not crash/dies upon choosing a song to play.

If mt-daapd crashes, then it needs fixing. Let us know when you know what's causing the crash.
Comment 2 Pieter vanderPloeg 2010-05-21 18:20:02 UTC
nice. and helpful too. as i said in my report, banshee does not cause a crash of the mt-daapd server. so even if there is something wrong with the daap server, there is also something in rhythmbox that is causing the crash. fyi.. the rhythmbox version in ubuntu karmic works perfectly with the same daap server.
And what information do you want me to send you re: the cause of the crash. info from a logfile??
Comment 3 André Klapper 2010-05-22 14:28:29 UTC
You could try "rhythmbox -D daap"
Comment 4 Jonathan Matthew 2010-05-22 23:38:38 UTC
That wouldn't help much. I'd be interested in seeing the difference between a HTTP request that doesn't cause mt-daapd to crash and one that does, but as already stated, this is a bug in mt-daapd that needs to be fixed there, not here.
Comment 5 Pieter vanderPloeg 2010-05-23 14:23:46 UTC
@Jonathan Matthew Perhaps there is some info in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/555736
Comment 6 Jonathan Matthew 2010-05-23 23:52:35 UTC
I've removed the extra Connection header that looks like mt-daapd might be tripping over. I'm not going to investigate any further.
Comment 7 Pieter vanderPloeg 2010-05-24 10:07:02 UTC
Great. Thank you very much. The new version with the extra
Connection header removed will show up downstream in Ubuntu I presume.
Comment 8 Christophe Fergeau 2010-05-24 11:35:32 UTC
Once again, it would be better to fix mtdaapd once and for all too instead of just going for this workaround.
Comment 9 Pieter vanderPloeg 2010-05-24 14:42:53 UTC
Agree totally with Christophe Fergeau. Far better to fix mt-daapd. Does anyone know how to get in touch with the delevopers of Firefly? Their last release seems to be from 2007. One must fear they are no longer active.

Just want to share my experience on some particular points:

- Rhythmbox on Lucid makes Firefly installed on my ARM server crashed, but *NOT* my other Firefly installed on another Pentium server

- Indeed, Banshee works well with both servers

- While this is true that the Firefly project seems to be inactive since a while (2007), there is some recent activity in a fork-based Firefly project: http://git.debian.org/?p=users/jblache/forked-daapd.git
