I set the volume level to 50%, but then after the tracks is changing to the next song, then the volume level back to 100%.

I can't reproduce, when I change the track the volume level is the same for me. Rhythmbox 0.12.8

I've never seen this.  Output from 'rhythmbox -D player' showing the problem occurring would probably help track it down.
