GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 618221
Transfer the ownership of guadec.org to GNOME Foundation
Last modified: 2010-05-11 13:45:29 UTC
DKUUG (Danish Unix User Group) kindly accepted our request to transfer the guadec.org domain to GNOME Foundation. FWIW, I have sent an email informing about this to the sysadmin mailing list on April 19th (2010). I just was informed the domain has been unlocked. I checked it via whois, and the status is OK. So, it is up us to proceed with the transfer request. Also, we share the same registrar, hence it would be easier. The relevant information given by whois: Domain ID:D68718305-LROR Domain Name:GUADEC.ORG Created On:03-Apr-2001 03:12:14 UTC Last Updated On:09-May-2010 07:39:31 UTC Expiration Date:03-Apr-2011 04:12:14 UTC Sponsoring Registrar:Network Solutions LLC (R63-LROR) Status:OK Domain ID:D1196645-LROR Domain Name:GNOME.ORG Created On:23-Jul-1997 04:00:00 UTC Last Updated On:14-Jun-2006 10:42:30 UTC Expiration Date:22-Jul-2011 04:00:00 UTC Sponsoring Registrar:Network Solutions LLC (R63-LROR) Status:CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED According to the following howto, we are in the step 5: http://www.ehow.com/how_4575504_domain-name-ownership-another-person.html Because of the right timing for everybody, please proceed with this as soon as possible. The technical counterpart at DKUUG is Kristen Nielsen (krn at krn, Denmark). If you send an email to him (just in case of any problem), please add me in the Cc.
<owen> bkor: I'd really like to stay out of the domain name management area if possible. Can you mail stormy (director@gnome.org) about it? --> stormy (this is not something handled by sysadmins)
I don't manage the Network Solutions account. (Although I do have the password so I can help.) I would think the domains should be managed by the web team or the sys admin team.
So who manages it then? I am a long time sysadmin, and I do not have access to it. Owen does, but he clearly says he doesn't want to be involved. gnome.org whois lists director@gnome.org and gnomeorg-dns@fishsoup.net (Owen) Anyway, I do not want to be involved with anything which involves money. If somehow the foundation directly gets an invoice I'm ok with it.
Note that transfering guadec.org is probably best done by transfering it to DreamHost where we have registered new domains recently. There *might* be some way of moving the current registration within networks solutions without having to pay for the new registration, but I rather doubt it, and the domain is up for renewal next April anyways. To me, the process of registering domain names, keeping track of when to renew domain names, and renewing them is maintaining foundation property and is best handled by the foundation not the sysadmin team. It could be delegated to the sysadmin team, but there is a money aspect that makes that a little awkward to ask sysadmins to do it. (Obviously we can do reimbursements, it's just a bit of a hassle for the sysadmin.) Either way, speaking personally, I don't want to do it, because I'd rather concrentrate my sysadmin efforts on things that *have* to be done by me. And this isn't one of them. gnomeorg-dns@fishsoup.net is me, me and director@gnome.org, at the moment. It exists so that our technical contact for the gnome.org domain name isn't a gnome.org email address. I'm happy to add other people to it.
Germán and I are working on this. We are transfering it to the GNOME Network Solutions account.
guadec.org is now transferred to the GNOME Foundation Network Solutions account. This is the designated DNS: PTAH.DKUUG.DK NS2.DKUUG.DK
