A demonstration of the issues with the user interface in question.

Upon inserting a CD, Rhythmbox displays it in the "devices" list, as it should: however, the user interface for ripping a CD is extremely unsatisfactory.

Point one: the "import" (or "rip" or "copy to library") button is very inconspicuous, with a generic "CD or other optical media" icon in the toolbar, and no indication as to its function without hovering over to produce a tooltip. Given that there are two very similar icons already in the toolbar, it is a potentially frustrating experience for a first-time user who is perhaps unaware of tooltips.

Moreover, if I want to change the import options (for example, if I prefer FLAC over MP3) I am forced to navigate to Preferred Format under the Music tab in the preferences panel. There is a case for having, in line with players such as iTunes, an "audio settings" button next to the "rip" button.

I don't see a point in changing this. Either you have a prefered format in general, or you don't have. No need to change this all the time.
