Binary package hint: empathy

I'm trying to set up Empathy 2.30.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 with my SIP account on iptel.org.

The account is created - REGISTER/PUBLISH - goes success.

But I can't make any call!

If I do "Ctrl+M" == "New Call", in the drop down list for "Account" - the SIP iptel account is not possible to select - it's grayed out (google and facebook accounts are selectable though).

The SIP account is selectable only for chat ("Ctrl+N") - not for audio/video call.

I do recall being able to make and receive calls in 9.10 with empathy, so I believe there is a regression.

I tried installing telepathy-sofiasip and restarting empathy but that did not solve the issue.

Hello, I have got the same case with empathy 2.30.1@Ubuntu 10.04
Comment 1 Guillaume Desmottes 2010-05-06 07:49:21 UTC
I just tried with my SIP account and it worked fine. Does the account appear as connected in the accounts dialog?
Comment 2 SiB 2010-05-06 08:12:22 UTC
I have got status "Dostępny"=Connected for my local Asterisk/SIP details.
SIP Account: 108@10.103.0.16:5060(UDP).
Comment 3 Guillaume Desmottes 2010-05-06 08:18:44 UTC
You mean it appears as connected in the accounts dialog? (Yellow infobar with "available")
Comment 4 SiB 2010-05-06 08:30:20 UTC
YES. True.
I can do screenshoot's or publicate screen into image-host portals if need.

YES but I cannot do any call from Empathy :(

I publish full description on this URL http://pokazywarka.pl/bug617754/ .
I wish this information are fully for you.

Best Regards

P.S. I change status from NEEDINFO to UNCONFIRMED, good? I cannot change to ANSWERED...

Thanks for the info.

The first account you created (the one connecting) uses the wrong protocol (that's telepathy-haze's simple implementation that we should remove from Empathy as it doesn't work pretty well).

You should be able to connect using the second account. If you can't I suggest you to open a telepathy-sofiasip bug on bugs.freedesktop.org and attach tp-sofiasip logs.

Anyway, once you'll have connected your SIP account, you'll still won't be able to add contacts (because tp-sofiasip doesn't support roster) but you should be able to call contacts from the "New Call" menu.

I have to agree with SiB completely and Guillaume Desmottes. After installing telepathy-sofiasip and keeping the same settings as mentioned in SOLVED section of http://pokazywarka.pl/bug617754/#zdjecie508551, I am able to make my voip account with voipbuster.com work.

In addition to that, I realised you can actually make and receive calls if you put in the STUN server name, in my case it was stun.voipbuster.com; though I have to say that, the whole SIP experience with empathy is far not stable.

At least in my case, I have had to restart empathy several times, so that, I will get the incoming calls from the voipbuster client installed on a windows pc. Other times, I couldn't hear anything from the caller, sometimes the caller couldn't hear anything from my side. I am not sure, whether this was due to the voipbuster client, which cannot be termed as buggy at any rate.
