Description Giedrius Slavinskas 2010-05-02 21:29:34 UTC
After my system updated openjdk6 to 6.b18_1.8 version, epiphany freezes on webpages with javascript.

I had switched to another browser for a week, because epiphany was not usable at all. Until I had found this bug report and some workaround http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/19273

As far as I know, Epiphany's javascript functionality comes from WebKit and is totally unrelated to the presence of a Java plugin.

Could you provide a URL where you observe the problem so that we can try to reproduce? Thanks!
Comment 2 Giedrius Slavinskas 2010-05-03 09:22:59 UTC
You can reproduce this almost on every webpage. But following URL is guarantee http://www.gitready.com/intermediate/2009/01/31/intro-to-rebase.html

So what we have here is an incompatibility with the latest OpenJDK, observed only on Arch Linux yet. The next step is to establish whether this problem is specific to Arch or not. Reporters, can you test on other distributions?
Comment 5 Ionut Biru 2010-05-21 19:26:17 UTC
i don't think is related to epiphany, mostly all webkit browsers are affected by openjdk6 to 6.b18_1.8

I'm a bit confused, is this really a _javascript_ problem? The upstream icedtea bug linked in the Arch bug report doesn't mention Javascript.

For Java applets, OpenJDK doesn't work with WebkitGTK+:

It depends on if you're tracking the (dubious?) problem with Javascript, or the problem with OpenJDK. Bug 616756 was closed as a duplicate of this and was about Java, not Javascript.
