Description jmales 2010-04-25 12:36:24 UTC
When using 'connect to server' with ssh folder option, if the 'Folder' field is left blank, you're dropped in root. This was confirmed connecting to ssh daemons running on OS X 10.5, AIX 5.3.10 and RHEL 5.5. This has been reported before (bug 522917). Specifying ~ leads to an error. A pop-up window with 'Count not find sftp://server/~" appears. If the protocol inhibits home access with the ~ character, a more helpful error would be appreciated.

If further details are needed, please contact for clarification.

Initially, I meant to separate the default directory issue from the ~ issue. Bug 522917 was the bug I found in the Nautilus tree. However, it appears this is actually a gvfs issue. I found the following commentary: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/290703. This appears to be Ubuntu's bug tracker, so I'm unsure what the state of if it in gnome itself.

I'm unsure at this time if the ~ issue is still present. The next 10.4 release of Ubuntu is a couple days out, and I'll update once I've upgraded.

We no longer have the initial folder field in the connect to server dialog. We should, however, default to a better location than / I think.

FYI, I've filed bug 683353 which is related.
