GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 615356
hires icon for eog
Last modified: 2010-06-06 17:20:25 UTC
Created attachment 158364 [details] 256x256 icons I made a hires 256x256 icon for eog. Would be cool if you could use it. :)
Ah, nice one. :) Aren't you using SVGs anymore for the hires icons?
(In reply to comment #1) > Ah, nice one. :) > > Aren't you using SVGs anymore for the hires icons? It's made in SVG but we decided to just ship PNGs for high res because of performance issue. I can give you the svg if you want to keep it in the tarball.
Created attachment 158376 [details] icon on gnome-shell alt+tab panel Just tried the icon on gnome-shell's alt+tab panel at looks like the magnifying glass's border could be a bit too dark to spot. Or is this not the designated place for the icon? (In reply to comment #2) > It's made in SVG but we decided to just ship PNGs for high res because of > performance issue. I'll tweak it a bit so it will still be visible on more backgrounds. > (In reply to comment #2) > > It's made in SVG but we decided to just ship PNGs for high res because of > > performance issue. I was looking for them but couldn't find them. If you can point me to them I can put them all in the same file.
never mind, i found them in the source tarball.
Created attachment 158377 [details] one canvas svg
Created attachment 158378 [details] improved 256x256 still not perfect on dark, but a little better. The style of gnome-shell will probably change as well.
Is this a new style of icons targetting GNOME 3.0? What's the context? Although it looks nice I wonder if it fits with the current style of icons in the desktop.

Yep, it's the Tango high resolution style. Currently they're being used in the about boxes and the alt+tab switcher.
Okay, I'm going to pick it up with some of next changes. Regarding the one-canvas file: Does shipping this mean that we can drop all the "fixed-size" SVGs (all not in the scalable folder) of the logo?

Yes, you can drop them, i copied them over into the one-canvas file.

(bug 615356) Thanks, Hylke!
Lookin' good. Especially the poleroid pairt. I have some suggestions about the contents of the black circle: My first impression of this image was that the view through the lens was not magnified, appearing as though it's just a black circle, not a magnifying glass. Reasons/suggestions: 1) Distort the image inside the glass so that things towards the middle are bigger, and towards the edge of the glass are smaller (horizontal lines should not stay straight unless they are dead center.) 2) The reflection on the glass should be more obvious. A thick magnifying glass will reflect most light sources pretty well. I didn't notice the reflection at all until my third viewing, because it blends into the flower petal.
