GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 615010
podsleuth: should activate HAL if needed, and needs DK=>udisks fix
Last modified: 2010-05-14 22:56:30 UTC
Similar to my patch to Banshee (c9976c73c8c63a0e7872fa0e38c5568829f4101c) to activate HAL if it's not already running, podsleuth probably should do the same thing. It also needs the DeviceKit/udisks fix (7c02a2292386ad8089d53a0a02e1615e01a34ded / 586664837d544f77dd8cbce89d335c9beca8b78f in Banshee).
It seems podsleuth is completely broken in Ubuntu Lucid, now that HAL is D-Bus activated and does not have an init script.

Ubuntu Lucid is final now and I'm thinking this bug should get higher priority. Ubuntu is probably the Linux distro who gives Banshee the most users and many of us have already upgraded to the latest release. Not being able to sync my iPod with Banshee at this moment is a serious flaw. As I commented earlier, running podsleuth --rescan produces: "No iPods were found in the HAL device tree" ...But you probably already know that.

This is fixed in podsleuth master and the just-released podsleuth 0.6.7.
Thanks Gabriel. Please allow me to ask, will this podsleuth update be available through one of Banshee's PPAs? Can't wait to get my iPod synchronizing again with Banshee! Regards
Yes, it should be available via the PPAs, and hopefully through the Lucid update repo as well. Might take a while (at least a couple days) for the former, and the later, who knows.
