Description Jeremy Nickurak 2010-04-06 18:40:16 UTC
Two major black eyes here:

1) http://xchat-gnome.navi.cx/ is non-functional, but it's still the first result from google. This page should really be shut down, or made into a simple redirect to http://live.gnome.org/Xchat-Gnome , so google starts picking up on it.

In addition, the "Help:About" dialog still points there.

Does anybody know who's in charge of running navi.cx? Have any contacts at all?

The page is clearly abandoned, and the blog comment system appears to be broken (new comments are not posted successfully.)

2) IRC channel #xchat-gnome on irc.freenode.org: This is still listed as the official channel, but it's currently "owned" by freenode staff.

This can be corrected by a project organizer (Presumably, someone taking charge of current development of xchat-gnome) filling in a form as documented at http://freenode.net/group_registration.shtml

This looks pretty straightforward, and just takes some processing time on freenode's part.

The #xchat-gnome is often empty, and most messages/queries go unanswered. This situation can improve, and probably will if the visibility of the channel's proper documentation improves (my theory :) )

Anyone involved in the project particularly want to take the steps to register with freenode? I could do it in a pinch, but I'd want some sort of "blessing" to go forward on the part of an active developer.

This will be fixed with the next release.

Thanks for pointing this one out. I am looking this up further.

Thanks, noted.

I am planning to add a mailing list.

The xchat-gnome-list has been created on mail.gnome.org.

I've tried emailing everyone I think that could be related to the project and/or domain. At least 3 of these are for David Trowbridge. Any thoughts on an updated contact for him?

trowbrds@src.gnome.org, trowbrds@gmail.com, chpe@gnome.org, micah@navi.cx, trowbrds@cs.colorado.edu

micah@navi.cx replied with:

I let him know that x-g devs have been trying to get in touch with him... we'll see if that goes anywhere.

website has been updated to point back to http://live.gnome.org/Xchat-Gnome

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
