look at environment variable

libgnome supports relocating .gnome2 via an environment variable.

Red Hat has a customer that would like to use this feature.

yelp currently hard codes .gnome2 instead of looking at the environment variable.

Looks fine to me. We're in hard code freeze right now. This can be pushed after the 2.30.0 release.
