Description cruejones 2010-03-24 11:52:03 UTC
banshee 1.5.6 does not play audio media.
When I try to play a song it shows in "now playing" but with no audio. Not even
seeing the stream in PulseAudio. Also, the song scrollbar (time meter) does
not move and shows 0:00 of 0:00 although the song properties shows the file
to be good/correct and it plays in totem with no problem.

Distribution: SLED11
Mono: 2.0.1-1.19.1

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
This bug report isn't very useful because it lacks some important information to describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://banshee-project.org/contribute/file-bugs/ to know how to attach some logs from Banshee (no need to do the "kill" step).

Thanks. Did you try to play a song when you generated those logs?
Comment 5 cruejones 2010-03-24 13:19:40 UTC
yes, I tried to play a song for both attachments. The result is what is described in the original description. No crashes, just no audio, no movement on the song time meter and no audio stream showing in pulseaudio.

Thanks.
Comment 6 Andrés G. Aragoneses (IRC: knocte) 2010-03-24 13:25:17 UTC
Thanks.

Can you try to use playbin2 alone to play one of the songs that cannot be played in banshee but yes in totem?
Comment 7 cruejones 2010-03-24 13:30:02 UTC
sure but where can I get playbin2? Is it part of gstreamer?

Comment 10 cruejones 2010-03-24 15:05:20 UTC
If I specify playbin2 it does not play
~> gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin2 uri=file:///tmp/song.ogg

But if I specify playbin it does play
~> gst-launch-0.10 -v playbin uri=file:///tmp/song.ogg

I have attached the output of both.

Thanks.

Moving to GStreamer; not a Banshee issue. What version of GStreamer do you have?

Actually the version of gstreamer is right from SLED11, not opensuse.
Comment 14 cruejones 2010-03-25 12:37:54 UTC
opened bug in Novell's SLED11 bugzilla for gstreamer

Bug Number: 591104
Comment 15 cruejones 2010-03-26 13:56:38 UTC
updated gstreamer and now playbin2 file playback works but banshee still does not play audio files (ogg) and crashes when I try to select to the "Now Playing" sidebar option.

In fact this time when I select a song to play it does not even appear like it is trying to play the song. For example pressing the play icon does not change it to a pause icon and little gnome foot icon on the bottom left does not indicate any action.

I will post the crash logs.

Thanks.

crash log when selecting Now Playing

This is the dump from banshee-1 when I select the "Now Playing" sidebar. Also note that hitting play on any song seems to do nothing.
Comment 17 Wim Taymans 2010-04-12 09:44:16 UTC
can you make a debug log like this:

 GST_DEBUG=*decode*:5,*play*:5,*ogg*:5,*vorbis*:5 gst-launch playbin2 uri=file:///...  >debug.log 2>&1

The gzip the debug.log file and attach here.
