Current status bar is a big waste of space in xchat-gnome window. It only shows a "X,X lag" in the left and occupies a lot of space with no reason.

Like Gedit does, an option "View -> Status bar" could be added in menu bar so it would be hidden as default and people still would have an option to show the "X,X lag" again.
