GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 613031
PAM messages are not displayed long enough to read
Last modified: 2010-03-16 16:28:27 UTC
When a PAM message is returned for display after authentication, it flashes on the screen only briefly before the login screen disappears and the desktop is loaded. This message may be presenting important information, and it needs to be displayed long enough for it to be read. A specific example that can be tested: Install and configure the SSSD with cached credential authentication. Log in to a cached network login while offline (e.g. unplug the network cable) The message "Offline Authentication" will flash on the screen for less than one second. This is very useful information to the person logging in, and it should be displayed at least long enough for an average person to read it.
This bug has already been reported. Refer to #583856. That bug has a patch that worksaround the problem, but that patch isn't so good either since it causes PAM messages to display in a dialog one at a time. Really the GUI should be updated to support a scrollable list of messages instead. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 583856 ***
