GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 612728
Grid view doesn't always properly update album covers
Last modified: 2010-03-16 14:44:43 UTC
As you click through the list of artists in the top middle window, sometimes grid view still shows the covers from a previously selected artist. But clicking on the incorrectly displayed cover will still properly list the songs that belong to the currently selected artist, in the right most window. The proper album covers in grid are only properly displayed if you re-size the grid view window. It seems to be an error in the way the grid view window is being drawn or updated.
I can confirm this problem under Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 and the Banshee PPA packages. After selecting "All Artists", the first artist selected will cause the grid view to properly display all the albums. Subsequent artists selected will not, however, and the only way to fix the view is to select "All Artists" again or, as was already mentioned, resize it.
I'm having the same problem under Ubuntu 9.10 and the Banshee PPA packages to. Seems that changing between artist is causing some problem or lag in the album list. Solution seems to go back to "All artist" then to your new artist. But there is still a little lag.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 612603 ***
Any ideas when this update is going to happen? I don't want to add the unstable ppa and this bug is stopping me from using banshee currently.
We plan to release 1.6 on 31-mar
(In reply to comment #5) > We plan to release 1.6 on 31-mar Looks like I'll switch to the unstable ppa for the time being. Seems a bit crazy that a bug as big as this can make it into a "stable" release, it effectively cripples the browser as the album panel is completely un-usable without resizing banshee each time you switch artist. I don't want to sound too negative, the new grid view is a great enhancement for which I'm very grateful, just looks to me like it needed to be tested a lot more before making it into a stable release. Looking forward to the next release very much any way keep up the good work I've really enjoyed some of the recent additions banshee has received its an awesome piece of software.

To be fair, 1.5.5 is a release candidate, released during the development cycle. 1.6 will be the next truly stable release. The Stable PPA has been less stable than it usually is, mostly to work around a Banshee versioning issue that won't happen again if Banshee sticks with time-based releases. That said, I think you'll find the Daily PPA - you'll need "daily" not "unstable" - to actually be quite stable. Fixes get pushed out to users much more quickly with daily updates, so even though it often contains features that haven't been thoroughly tested, major bugs never last long.
Thanks for clarification, I hadn't realized this was a release candidate I've switched to the daily PPA until 1.6 is released. Thanks again for all your hard work guys, I love banshee, it's really moving ahead of Rhythmbox these days.
