GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 612545
GParted won't boot von VMware ESX
Last modified: 2010-12-29 04:22:04 UTC
Have tried boot 0.5.0-3 and higher on my ESX 3.5 server, during boot up it gives messages [57.055388] NTFS volume version 3.1 [58.181338] NTFS volume version 3.1 and so on. Then it says "BOOT FAILED! This debian live image failed to boot." ... ... "The error message was: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" On my system the version 0.4.6-1 and 0.4.8-1 works. Is there any problem with this versions von ESX? I have also found an article on your forum: http://gparted-forum.surf4.info/viewtopic.php?id=13835
How about GParted live 0.5.2-1? I am not familiar with VMWare ESX, so I am not sure if this is related, but maybe you can refer to: https://sourceforge.net/projects/clonezilla/forums/forum/663168/topic/3473337?message=8116031 Steven.
Hi All, i have the same thing 0.4.6-1 iso works but 0.5.2-1 and 0.5.1-1 fail to boot. I am a linux novice but have access to ESX to test if required... Let me know how i can help... Cheers Dave
On VMWare Player, I have experienced some problems booting some GNU/Linux distributions if the serial port is activated in the virtual machine. Perhaps you could try booting with the serial port disabled?

Hi Curtis, there isnt a serial port configured on my ESX client. I'll give you the virtual tin as it stands... Ram: 1024 MB CPU: 1 (host is 16 cores in total but only one allowed on client) CD drive: 1 (the ISO image) Nics: 2 Virtual SCSI Controller: LSI Logic Hard disk: 70GB with 2 partitions(independant persistant) and thats it... dull but true :-)
The following article contains some information and other links on troubleshooting virtual boot problems with VMware: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1010241 Perhaps you could investigate these to narrow down the source of the problem?
Possible duplicate of bug 608969?
Many changes have been made to both GParted and GParted Live since this bug was first reported. Would you be able to try GParted Live 0.7.0-4?
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GParted.
