GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 612453
ctrl-home ctrl-end key bindings not working
Last modified: 2010-04-10 04:04:50 UTC
The terminal mode program Midnight Command recently changed the key combinations used by their top-of-file and bottom-of-file functions. Top-of-file changed from ctrl-pgup to ctrl-home. Bottom-of-file changed from ctrl-pgdn to ctrl-end. When this change occurred it broke the functionality in GNOME Terminal. I use Red Hat Fedora, so I first filed a bug with them: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=551062 The conclusion there is that the problem is a bug in gnome-terminal. This bug report was closed and they said I needed to file a bug report upstream in the GNOME bugzilla. I also filed at bug with the developers of Midnight Commander: http://www.midnight-commander.org/ticket/1938 They concluded that MC is outputting the correct escape sequence for these key combinations for xterm, which is how gnome-terminal identifies itself. So, this bug report was closed too since the bug appears to be in GNOME Terminal. I think the two bug reports include all the relevant information but if anything else is needed, I'd be happy to provide it. The bug is easily reproducible on Redhat Fedora 12 by loading mc in a terminal window, opening the mc editor and trying to get to the top or bottom of a large file by using the ctrl-home or ctrl-end key combinations.
