GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 611699
Improve video preview icons
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:18:19 UTC
This report was originally filed at: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/502310 I Nautilus all videos are presented with a video icon. But icon size depends on video format. There are several video formats - 21:9 (cinema format) - 16:9 (HD-tv) - 4:3 ("old" tv format) All these icons have different sizes. That is irritating. Preview icons should be displayed in 16:9. Format differences should be framed in black, so that all video icons in Nautilus have all the same size. For better understanding, I uploaded two png-file 1) Improved icon preview (my suggestion): "Improved video icon: 4:3 - 16:9 - 21:9" 2) Icon preview, as shown in Nautilus now: "Video icon as it is now"

oops, sorry! url's of this images are: [1]http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37360020/Example%20in%20Nautilus.png [2]http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37360064/Nautilus-now.png Regards
To be honest, I don't really see what the problem is, as nautilus will make sure they are lined up properly. And nautilus does the same thing for images, so you'd need to change the behaviour for images, videos, PDFs, etc.
I tend to agree with the suggested improvement.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
