Description Oded Arbel 2010-03-02 10:28:43 UTC
When I start to compose a reply, when the composer is set to start a reply at the bottom (which I think is the default), then if I use SHIFT-LMB click to select text from the cursor position to the click location, the selection is created as if the cursor was at the top of the message composer instead of at the bottom where it is shown.

Use case:
1. Make sure that under Settings->Composer Preferences->General, "start typing at the bottom on replying" is checked (I think its the default).
2. Start a reply to an e-mail
3. The text cursor will be positioned after the quoted text and before the signature.
4. If I then want to select all the text from the bottom of the quoted text up to somewhere in the middle of the quoted text (for example, if I want to select and remove the other person's signature), I would normally hold down SHIFT and click above the text cursor where I want the selection to start (i.e. the top-left most part of the text selection area - the bottom-right most part of the text selection area will be the current text cursor position).

Expected result:
The bottom part of the quoted text, up to where the mouse was clicked, will be selected.

Actual result:
The top part of the quoted text, down to where the mouse was clicked, is selected.

This is even though the text cursor can be plainly seen at the bottom of the quoted text (even scrolled down there if the quoted text is very long) and if I simply start typing, the text appears at the bottom of the text. If I move the text cursor anywhere, even just one row up or down or simply type a space, then the selection as I described previously works - there is only a problem if I didn't move the cursor because I assume that the fact that it is shown at the bottom of the quoted text then it is actually there.

This is on current Lucid Alpha with Evolution 2.28.3 and is reported in Launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/530576

Thanks for a bug report. The version you used did use GtkHTML. The more current versions, witch WebKit-based composer, do not suffer of this, thus I close this in favour of it. Otherwise the error was in the GtkHTML itself, I believe.
