Description Paul Sladen 2010-03-01 11:45:58 UTC
Forwarded from: http://launchpad.net/bugs/529385

The English-language title of "Empathy IM client" in the .desktop description is not ideal.

The word "client" adds nothing, and "IM" is obscure. Ideally "Empathy Internet Messaging", or "Empathy Internet Chat" might be more obvious.

Patch included (thanks to Angel Abad) to change this to "Empathy Internet Messaging":

FWIW it is easier for maintainers to notice patches if they are real patches, attached to the bug report.

Also, from an old conversation on gnome-doc-list, "Instant Messenger" looked the best candidate.

Frederic: if you can clearly state how the one-line unified diff could be better expressed, I'm sure that either the originator of the patch, or myself, or even yourself would be able to tweak it as required (eg. to use the wording "Instant Messenger").
Comment 3 Frederic Peters 2010-03-02 20:40:25 UTC
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/page.cgi?id=patchreport.html&product=empathy&patch-status=none is a page used by maintainers, listing unreviewed patches. Quite logically this bug report, which has no patch attached (despite having a patch) won't be included on that page. Is it clearer? The problem is not with the patch itself, just the way it is (not) attached to the bug report.

Thanks for the patch. It will have to wait 2.31 as we are now in string freeze.
