GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 610922
Erratic behaviour in vertical windowlist case 100% CPU and potential dataloss
Last modified: 2011-11-14 08:43:59 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1) Add a windowlist to a narrow vertical panel. 2) Open many windows/applications 3) Once windowlist decides to divide into two columns (usually long before actal available space is reached) CPU is stuck at 100% and system becomes unresponsive. For me, the system becomes not unresponsive expect the gnome-panel. while one of the four cores is working with 100%, the gnome-panel eats my memory step by step until the memory (+swap ) is gone. killall gnome-panel restarts it, but does not solve the problem. changing the width of the vertical bar under 28px or so helps. I am also using avant window manager + compiz The strace and the last gdb log are attached at the already closed bug report http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=461106 (I know wrong version, I discovered it too late, sorry).
