I want to see love (render <3 as a heart)
Last modified: 2018-05-22 14:03:41 UTC
Created attachment 154558 [details] empathy's non-rendering of <3 It would be nice to have empathy render "<3" as a nice red heart, like most other IM clients do. running empathy 2.29.91-1ubuntu1 (current in Lucid)
Created attachment 154559 [details] how pidgin renders <3
Empathy uses the emoticon from the icon naming spec: http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/icon-naming-spec-latest.html Maybe you could request to add such icon to the spec?
Just keeping this bug updated. I emailed Rodney Dowes, the person in charge of the Icon Naming Spec privately, then on the mailing list. Unfortunately, mailman got confused by my quoting of multiple emails, so it split it up into two chunks, see: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2010-March/011375.html http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2010-March/011376.html Unfortunately, no one has responded (negatively or positively). I'm at a loss of how to proceed.
Google Mail's in-browser IM client shows an animated transition of the characters <3 being transformed into a handwritten heart symbol. These are the frames of the animation: https://mail.google.com/mail/im/emotisprites/heart0.png Perhaps Empathy could do something similar (possibly using Clutter)?
As we are using Adium themes shoudn't we do it using web stuffs? Any idea how that works in Google's client?
