GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 610325
codec autodetection does not always work
Last modified: 2010-09-09 18:50:32 UTC
I have made a collection of video samples to test gstreamer codec autodetection: http://jeff.ecchi.ca/public/gstreamer-codec-autodetection/ As you can see, there are many cases where pitivi can't properly do the detection (but totem can), which is folder #3. There are also cases where both pitivi and totem fail to detect the codec (folder #4), but this may be a more generic gstreamer bug and not in pitivi's domain.
After some more testing for bug #610449, it was found that bluez-gstreamer was the culprit. However, the current bug for pitivi still applies even without bluez-gstreamer installed. --------- * nekohayo wonders why pitivi would be any different than totem though seb128: because there is a client side to codec install; it's not all automagic; the app has to use the apis correctly; they might not be using the same gstreamer element or not in the same way
Tested with 0.13.4 in ubuntu lucid today. Now, totem is properly able to detect every file I throw at it, but pitivi can't detect any of them properly anymore (even ones that previously did). What the heck?
Re-retested with pitivi git and Ubuntu Maverick today. Totem detects everything, PiTiVi detects nothing.
Fixed by recent commits.
