Description spmbx 2010-02-10 13:15:24 UTC
Hi there,

using ubuntu karmic 9.10 and network manager applet 0.7.996, I switch a lot between wireless networks. After waking up from suspend, it happens that there are suddenly more then one known wireless networks available (with stored passwords). Since my location has changed, the reception of the last used network (which might be still available here!) has decreased to one bar only. I would love to see network manager figuring out that a new network with much higher signal strength should be preferred!

Just for clarification:

waking up from suspend -> check ALL wireless networks -> sort ALL known networks by signal strength, connect to best network (even though it hasn't been used before going to suspend mode)

--> if it fails, switch to next network and try to connect without asking (for example if "connect automatically" is checked)

In case there is a downside i dont know about (like reconnecting takes longer), how about giving priorities for networks as integer values (instead of last used?)

thank you very much!

Are the other networks actually around, or does NM see "phantom" networks from before the suspend?

Or is it really the case that you've moved 50 meters or so and the network that you used to be using is at the edge of range and there's a better one there?

I moved to another location. The new (better) network wasn't there before I moved (the old network covers a large area and is up all the time but has just one bar). I know it is a rare case but easy to fix though.
