Log from crash when playing AVI

I downloaded an AVI podcast (sneekylinux, Memaker episode) and tried to play it via Banshee. Banshee simply crashed and disappeared.

I ran Banshee again in debug, send all output to a file (attached).

I also tried playing the AVI through other players just to check there wasn't a problem with it (Rhythmbox, and VLC both played it fine).

I am running 1.5.3 which I got from the ppa registered on Launchpad.
I am using a fully up-to-date Ubuntu 9.10 Gnome install and I have (as far as I know) all the various gstreamer plugins installed (good, bad and ugly).

The only "gain" property we set is in our equalizer (libbanshee/banshee-player-equalizer.c). Is it enabled? Can you try disabling it do confirm that works around the problem?

Terminal log with equaliser off
Comment 6 roadSurfer 2010-02-10 10:56:26 UTC
I tried it with the equaliser off, same thing happened.

I tried MP4s and MOVs Banshee crashed in what appears to be the same way (this was also with the equaliser off).
These files (they're all podcasts) play fine in Totem, Miro and Rhythmbox.

If I can provide any information, please let me know.

I apologize for the long delay.

We have a number of improvements to the video playback and media engine in 1.8.0 and beyond. It would be very helpful if you could retest this using the Banshee daily PPA and if it still happens attach a new --debug log.

It no longer crashes, but neither does it play any video I have tried.
What I see is the initial frame, and the the video window goes black. If I move or re-size the Banshee window then the video re-appears. I thought this might have been related to Compiz (I have seen simialr issues with Totem), but disabling Compix did not fix it.
Looks like this is bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=562826

OS: Ubuntu 10.10, Gnome, Compiz fully updated
Banshe: 1.9 from the daily PPA, downloaded this morning.
Formats affect: All? (AVI and mp4 tested)
System: Dell Opitplex-GX270

I have marked this as RESOLVED as Banshee does not crash, I will track the other bug about the playback issues.

Cheers.
