GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 608418
Can't connect to MSN network at all with empathy
Last modified: 2010-02-16 16:05:18 UTC
After launching empathy, it can't even connect to MSN network, it displays: "network error" and an "edit account" button. First, I think it's needless to show that button since editing MSN information seems not to help to connect. Also, other IM client (pidgin) can connect without any problem, so I don't think it's really a "network error" (anyway: just saying "network error" can't help me to figure out what kind of network error is it, some TCP/IP problem, or my account info are wrong, or protocol fault etc etc - though since the really same account works in pidgin in the same machine, I can't think it's a fault of network or me). It seems it's always the case: empathy = no MSN, from the first moment of launch it, and every time I try it again (with enabling/disabling the account or just simply close that "network error" reporting), empathy reports again that "network error". More info: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/513346 I was told at launchpad that it would be nice to report this problem of mine here too, so I did. Thanks! As I've commented at Ubuntu's launchpad ticket, it can be an UI problem: port setting for MSN defaults to zero with creating new MSN account, and also with editing: if I open the accounts window, I see the number of zero at "advanced" for port setting. If I modify is to 1863, I get network error again, and if I reopen the account setting window, I can see again that port is set to zero. So it seems I am unable to modify the port number and it always zero. Maybe this cause the connection problem. I've also tried with 2.29.x development version (from ubuntu's PPA) and I have the very same problem there too. Thanks.
That's probably a telepathy-butterfly issue. I suggest you to open a bug on bugs.freedesktop.org and attach butterfly logs.
