Steps to reproduce

open empathy
setup irc
open the NickServ window
type /join #ubuntu-testing

Nothing happens

Pre alpha 2 a new channel window would open with access to the #ubuntu-testing channel

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
